SPARSH

Humans are very expressive in showing their affection and love towards the ones whom they care for. Out of many such displays, touching one another with gentle care strengthens the bond which we share. It not only shows care and love but also highlights the trust that we have with each other. However, with changing times, humans are becoming lesser r and physical touches which ones meant love has now completely changed into ‘abuse’ in many cases. Bells are ringing out loud and it has become the need of hour for teaching and educating our children about the differentiation in touches they encounter with. Their ignorance and naïve mind often lure the attention of those who have an evil which usually destroys their childhood into pieces.

Sparsh project was initiated in 2019 by a group of young volunteers. The prime objective of this project is to educate children about difference between Good and Bad touch in Government schools, Playground, Tuition centers and even door-to-door. The target age group is 4 to 12 year for this project. The volunteers are trained with special teaching techniques to spread awareness about child molestation.

We are using group teaching method to organize awareness campaigns. With the help of flash cards, banners, painting, toys and poems, we ensure that maximum participants must receive information related to child sexual abuse.

We have observed and identified that maximum children in government schools are not familiar with Good and bad touch, therefore they are the easy targets of sexual abuse by their own relatives and close family member. It has intense and adverse impact on victim’s psychology and personality. Generally, they do not share such experiences with anyone and remain silent. Their silence helps the culprit to increase his/her abusive behavior towards the victim. As per our study, 5 out of 30 children have experienced molestation within their family. We realized that it is high time we take stand against child sexual abuse.
Another component of this program is to educate the mothers about child sexual abuse because they have a very important role to play in protecting their children from abusive incidents.

Till date we have educated more than 35000 children to save them from any type of sexual abuse.
